Linde drives mental health awareness forward with Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds

Linde Material Handling has partnered with Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds (Healthy Heads) for a third year, reinforcing the importance of mental health and physical well-being across the transport, warehousing and logistic industries.

Healthy Heads was launched in August 2020 and is a registered not-for-profit Australian foundation dedicated to improving mental health and physical well-being for people working in road transport, warehousing, and logistics. Supported by Linde Material handling, and established by Founding Partners Australia Post, Coles, Linfox, Toll, Qube, Ron Finemore Transport, and Woolworths, the foundation works to build safer, healthier and more supportive working environments across the sector.

Reflecting on the importance of looking after mental health of employees at Linde, Belinda de Ruiter, National HSEQ Manager, explains: “As a business, when COVID happened, we realised very quickly that even once people started returning to the office, they were not the same. Follow-up questions often led to very short answers. We realised we needed to look at our colleagues more closely and create more space for real conversations. People weren’t feeling as they had before; their coping mechanisms had changed. So we started offering as much support as we could, including daily phone calls with technicians to simply check in and chat about their day.”

To raise internal awareness of the partnership, Linde cycles informative wellbeing messaging through their tearoom TV presentations, leveraging the Healthy Heads tools available regarding nutrition, special offers and general mental health and wellbeing awareness, Healthy Heads resources are available at no charge, on their website for all companies and individuals to leverage. All team members at Linde also have access to a dedicated Wellness SharePoint channel where webinars and resources are regularly shared. In addition, Linde has implemented Mental Health First Aid training and continues to introduce initiatives that focus on improving mental health awareness and physical wellbeing across the organisation, while also extending these conversations to customers and the wider industry.

Melissa Weller, General Manager at Healthy Heads, adds: “I think Linde is doing an incredible job. When I look at everything they’re doing, from policies to Workplace Wellbeing plans and training, to external workplace awareness, they’ve got pretty much all bases covered.”
