At Linde Australia, the heart of the business is of course the people, that’s why over the next few months we’re going to get to know some of the Linde team members a little bit more.
You can tune in here each week to meet someone new, or keep up through our social channels to meet even more of the Linde family!
Meet Troy Willoughby – Key Account Manager – NSW
From servicing trucks to selling them and everything in between, Troy’s Linde story has been one full of twists and turns but one he says has been fulfilling so far.
Starting out his working life as an auto mechanic, Troy’s future father-in-law (who worked at Linde for 40 years until his recent retirement), got him an opportunity working as a Linde Technician. Coming from a background of working on cars, Troy had a lot to learn but his transferrable skills saw him out in the field in no time.
After 3 years as a technician and a new certification in frontline management, Troy was ready to move off the tools and into the office.
Starting his office life as a National Equipment Coordinator let him bridge his mechanical skills to his management aspirations and this paid off when he was later successful in becoming the Service Area Manager, a role he’d had his eyes on while he was a technician.
Troy attributes part of his successful transition into office life to the great team of people that he was surrounded by.
What I love about working for Linde is the culture. Everyone is willing to help you out no matter what. Moving from the field to the office I had to navigate what to them were probably the basics of working on a computer all day and the support I received was amazing.
Now considered an “excel whiz”, Troy got his next role as the National Rental Manager, a demanding position that offered him a lot of new experiences to throw into his already overflowing tool belt!
After taking 3 months off to explore career opportunities outside of the industry and to spend time with his wife and his new daughter, Troy was welcomed back to theLinde family with open arms.
A newly created role leading the implementation of a new internal service and sales software (or CRM for those in the know), was the perfect role for Troy to be able to use the existing tools in his belt while adding a few more for good measure.
When asked what he’s taken from his earlier roles into the current Troy said, “Managing people as a Service Area Manager shaped communication style which has been priceless when it comes to my relationships with both colleagues and customers.”
And that takes us to Troy’s current role. As of March 2021, Troy has been working as a Key Account Manager for NSW Linde customers.
Some may say a role in sales couldn’t be further from starting a career in service (particularly technical service) but who better to talk to you about your potential material handling needs than the man who literally knows the Linde range inside and out?
